Basic installation recommendations for the TracerSpacer.
- Install or roll out the gas pipe.
- Roll out tracer wire.
- Secure tracer wire at one end. (eg. Secure to the riser, secure to the main tracer wire, or secure to a wooden stake).
- Begin at the secured end installing TracerSpacers every 5 to 10 feet or as needed to maintain a safe distance between pipe and wire.
- Gently pull slack from the wire between TracerSpacers as you go. Do not use excessive force to pull slack out.
- TracerSpacers should be installed to the right or left side of the gas pipe resting on the trench floor. If trench width does not permit this, TracerSpacers can be installed above the pipe and resting on either the left or right wall of the trench.
- For best results store at room temperature (avoid excessive heat).
Basic installation recommendations for the Common Trench Spacer.
- Install all utilities in the trench. (for best results, gas should be placed last to prevent other utilities from disturbing the placement of the TracerSpacers.)
- Roll out tracer wire.
- Starting at the beginning of the trench, install a TracerSpacer on the pipe, placing all other utilities on the far side of the vertical post. (The weight of the other utilities will help to hold the TracerSpacer in place while ensuring a safe separation of one foot.)
- Snap tracer wire into the clip located between the pipe end and the vertical post. Do not use excessive force to pull slack out of the tracer wire.
- Continue this process down the length of the trench, installing TracerSpacers approximately every 8 to 10 feet apart or as needed to maintain a safe separation of utilities and a safe separation of tracer wire and PE pipe.
- In areas where the trench curves, or around hand holes or transformers, TracerSpacers may have to be installed less than the recommended 8 to 10 feet apart to maintain separation. Discretion is to be used in these areas.
- TracerSpacer For Common Trench should not be used as a restraining device or to create one foot of separation where one foot cannot be achieved normally. They are simply spacers to maintain the safe separation of utilities and ensure that the separation is not compromised during the backfilling process.
