Pictures Above Show That Taping Tracer Wire Or Allowing Tracer Wire To Make Direct Contact To Gas Mains Or Services Could Result In The Loss Of Life Or Property. Why Take That Chance?
Regulatory Alert:
The U.S. Department of Transportation has made revisions to the Gas Pipeline Safety Standards in 49 CFR Part 192.321. These revisions became effective on October 15, 2003. Included in these revisions is the following regulation addressing the installation of plastic pipe gas mains and service lines:
Sec. 192.321 Installation of Plastic pipe.
(e)Plastic pipe that is not encased must have an electrically conducting wire or other means of locating the pipe while it is underground. Tracer wire may not be wrapped around the pipe and contact must be minimized.
The TracerSpacer Is A Simple, Low Cost, Snap-On Device Designed To Provide A Consistent Separation Between Plastic Pipe And Its Tracer Wire. This Helps Eliminate The Possibility Of Wire To Pipe Contact Or Electrical Shorts Caused By Installation Defects Or Third Party Damages.
The TracerSpacer Also Ensures That The Tracer Wire Does Not Become Displaced Away From The Pipe During Backfilling. It Maintains A Consistant 6'' Separation To Provide Accurate Locting Of The Pipe In The Future, Therefore, Reducing Your Third Party Damages. Sizes Range From 1/2" to 6" Diameter.
